Ebisu Station 恵比寿駅

JR Ebisu station was created in 1901. Located in the Shibuya district, it provides access to a pleasant and green area where food and culture come together. Especially in its nerve center, Ebisu Garden Place!
The train station
Ebisu Station (then spelled Yebisu) was opened in 1901 as a freight station. Beers from the Yebisu brewery (which moved and was renamed Sapporo Breweries) were transported there. In 1909, it was connected to the JR Yamanote line but it will be destroyed by the flames during a bombardment of the Second World War.
In the spring of 1964, the Hibiya Line subway station opened in front of the JR station. In 1995, the station was connected to the Saikyô line and then to the Shônan-Shinjuku line in 2001. Currently, there are therefore three JR lines serving Ebisu station. The subway station served by the Hibiya line is just in front of the West exit.
JR Ebisu Station is located on the ground floor of a seven-story building housing the Atre Ebisu shopping center. It has two entrances: East and West.
The station takes its name from the Yebisu brewery which was located at the site of the present Yebisu Garden Place, while Ebisu is the eponymous god of the brewery.
In Shinto mythology, Ebisu is one of the Seven Lucky Gods. He is the god of fishermen, merchants, prosperity, and luck in general. His smiling statue welcomes passengers at the East exit, a popular meeting place!

The Ebisu district
Even if the Yebisu brewery has disappeared, beer is still present in the neighborhood. Fans can visit the beer museum, Yebisu Beer Museum, to learn all about the history of this alcohol in Japan or to taste a few vintages. The museum shop, for its part, offers original products based on this beverage. Admission is free but tasting is not.
- Access: The museum is a 10 min walk from the West Exit of JR Ebisu Station.
Still on the beer side, the most thirsty and hungry can go in the evening to " Ebisu Yokocho ", a very lively alley where many taverns offer all kinds of Japanese dishes at reasonable prices.

Another point that makes the neighborhood special is the Sky Walker, a long conveyor belt leading to Ebisu Garden Place
For a chic experience in the capital, head to Ebisu Garden Place, a complex housing the Mitsukoshi department store, upscale boutiques, and restaurants, including Joël Robuchon's famous 3-star restaurant "Le Château de Joël Robuchon".
Ebisu Garden Place is also famous for its Christmas lights. It is connected to JR Ebisu Station by the Sky Walker.

Culture is not forgotten
At the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, four floors are dedicated to photography with permanent and temporary exhibits by contemporary photographers from Japan and around the world.

The Yamatane Art Museum is housed in a modern building. This museum exhibits collections from the "Yamatane Art Foundation", the personal collections of Yamazaki Taneji, founder of the Yamatane securities company (now SMBC, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation). Nearly 1,800 nihonga, Japanese paintings, are exhibited in this museum. These are mostly modern works and watercolors by Japanese artists. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions.

The Franco-Japanese House (MFJ) was founded in 1924 by Paul Claudel, then French Ambassador to Japan. Its mission is "the development of cultural and scientific exchanges between France and Japan". It regularly organizes conferences and various exhibitions.
